Although his life has been full of dramatic difficulties, Jordi chooses to have his art reflect peace and tranquility.

jcwas born in Barcelona, Spain, where many famous artists got their start: Picasso, Miró, Dalí, and the architect, Gaudí. The outbreak of the Spanish Civil War and subsequent years of bleak subsistence prevented him from receiving a formal education, let alone any art training when he was growing up. At the end of the war and for several years thereafter, there was hardly any food at home and no heat in winter. His mother mended the clothes his family wore. Jobs were scarce.

When he was 12, his father got him a job in a textile factory, the last place he would have chosen for himself, but it was a paying job. One day, an uncle gave him a cheap box of paints and brushes to keep his interest in painting alive, and Jordi would visit an art gallery or museum most Sundays, focus on one painting and study it carefully. That was how he taught himself to paint.

At the age of 25, he moved to Caracas, Venezuela, seeking a better life. On more than one occasion, his experience as a textile technician came in handy, as he looked for a job. Also, he came into contact with many established as well as novice artists from all over the world. In Venezuela he began to show his work professionally. Ever the self-taught artist, he soon realized that his preferences were for landscapes, although occasionally, he accepted commissions for portraits.

After a quarter century in Venezuela, circumstances took him to Blacksburg where he paints full time.

Friends and customers have enjoyed his quiet oil canvases showing light playing on the water [view] or filtering through trees [view]. Snow covered pastures [view], fall foliage [view], sheep [view], cows, and even buffalo grazing on a local farm [view] all become subjects of his paintings.

He often enjoys breaking away from landscapes to try something different [view], as he does not want to be limited by subject, approach or technique.
